Our History

TRADITION, PASSION, QUALITY

It was founded in 1976 thanks to the clear entrepreneurial vision of Ms. Giuseppina, a woman of Sicilian origin who, while still very young, had very definite ideas on how her passion for the artisan processing of Cashmere could add value to the tradition of ‘Made in Italy’, a passion that she transmitted to her daughter Carla, the current head of the workshop.
Today, Frèderik is a family company that has been in business for over forty years, manufacturing and selling luxury garments, and always maintaining the same strong, distinctive artisan imprint, which has been a critical success factor.
Thanks to the continuous careful selection of the raw material, as well as the care and passion for this noble yarn, Frèderik’s customers include globally renowned personalities and families, real families, who are loyal to the Brand and to its attentive service based on customer care and personalisation of the garment according to their taste.
As General Manager, the Team also includes the grandson Alessandro, who has had independent experience in the retail sector. Without ever forgetting its origins and tradition, Frèderik is now undergoing a phase of innovation, which is bringing it ever closer to its customers and to satisfaction of their needs.

After learning the trade, Giuseppina sets to work to find a enough money to allow her to buy her first machine. The activity begins at first with the use of Shetland and Merino wool, but in a short time, it conclusively shifts to Cashmere, following contact with an outside company that distributes garments in this most prized yarn. The collaboration with this company lasts about ten years, during which, after completing her studies, Carla actively begins working together with her mother.

A first workshop is opened in the Genoese suburbs; in the meantime, mother and daughter realise that the time is ripe to start an independent path and to this end, they purchase large quantities of Cashmere and register the brand. Despite the flood that hits Genoa in the ’70s jeopardising the entire workshop, Giuseppina and Carla get back on their feet and start dreaming big. They thus give life to the name of the company, chosen to pay homage to the family surname, Federico, but the international ‘sound’, given the presence of the Frèderik cousins in America, immediately convinces Giuseppina.

A new workshop is inaugurated in the prestigious Via XX Settembre, the beating heart of the city. The large spaces allow them to have a showroom that can welcome the most prominent families, attracted into the salons by word of mouth. Shortly thereafter, three stores are opened in the city, in well-established areas.

The time soon comes for Giuseppina to promote Frèderik internationally. Thus begins the distribution of the product to outside companies in elite tourist areas such as Portofino and Porto Cervo.
With Porto Cervo, it is love at first sight. The extraordinary combination of elegance and territory that characterises the pearl of the Costa Smeralda immediately makes it clear to Giuseppina that this would be the nest where she can grow the business and get it known.

It is here that she decides to gamble courageously on bringing a purely winter product to a summer tourist resort. And this is where her gamble turns out to be a winner. In fact, the most exclusive clientele begins to make regular visits to the Porto Cervo Marina store which opened in 1988, and then in the small square, the prestigious boutique in the centre, in the famous ‘La Passeggiata’, that would be fully functional only two years later. On La Passeggiata, Frèderik stands alongside some of the world’s most famous luxury brands, becoming one of the protagonists of Italian style exclusively ‘Made in Italy’.

In 2017, another important step is taken, when production is transferred directly to Sardinia, something that the family strongly wanted, so that the company could offer its customers an even more exclusive service, namely, to be able to place their orders during their summer stay and collect them in a few days directly from the store.
